I have to say that working with Shawn from MDM custom remodeling has been a real pleasure.We moved into our new house and had to remodel our old dark master bathroom and add a shower, as the existing bathroom had a tub only, we were not sure it was possible, but Shawn assured us it was with removing the wall and relocating the washer and dryer to the other side of the house, we liked his  ideas and professionalism and hired MDM to do the job.The job took faster than anticipated, and the workers were all super friendly. We were a little concerned about choosing the finishing materials, and Mario had to drive three times to the tile store with the samples.We are very happy with the results and the quality of work.

Our bathroom remodel went very well with Shawn and MDM.Shawn is a very talented, hard working contractor with a lot of experience and great ideas and he helped us design our bathroom to the best of our needs. Together with Shawn we scheduled to do the work while we were out of town for personal reasons and we were amazed to get daily updates on the whatsapp with updated pictures and videos which was amazing and really unexpected.We returned home after a few weeks to a beautiful remodeled bathroom and a house even cleaner than before we left.We love our new bathroom and look forward to working with Shawn again on future projects.

MDM Custom Remodeling transformed an old patio into a brand new bedroom and bathroom. The design, engineering, and permits were taken care of by MDM. The crew is efficient, skilled, and professional, and they cleaned up at the end of each work day. Communication and photos were sent via WhatsApp as a record of progress. Mike patiently answered and dealt with all our questions and concerns. The payment schedule was clear. They matched the stucco color with the existing house. Amazing service, prompt and professional. In the last big storm, we learned our flat roof was pooling water and had a leak. Day of, Mikes team found and stopped the leak, and that very next week we had a brand new pitched roof. I cannot recommend MDM enough.

I have reviewed MDM in the past because of the wonderful work they’ve done for us. So far total kitchen remodel, bathroom en-suite addition, and recently converting a bathroom into a handicap accessible one.Some companies you hire and after they are done you never can get a hold of them again. MDM is an exception to this. Even a minor thing like sealing a small tiled area with grout because of settling, which is common over time, Mike responded to my concern n text in less than 15 minutes. I can always count on Mike. So professional.

We called Mike three years after our renovation was completed regarding a plaster crack around the A/C linear slot diffuser as well as resetting one of our ceiling fan frequency codes. He sent out a crew member, whom we had worked with on the original renovation and the issues were taken care of at no cost. MDM Custom Remodeling continues to support their customers long after the job is completed.

Found this company on Yelp. Great reviews. Called this company to give a bid on a multifamily project. The reason I contacted them was not only the great reviews, but its a father / son team. Shawn, the son, e-mailed me back promptly and mentioned that their company does not work on commercial projects. They try to stay in their lane, and specialize in single family remodeling, custom bathrooms and ADUs. I called him later in the day and he was very honest about the companies work. They like to specialize in a few areas. He spent about 20 minutes on the phone and offered to reach back out if I had any questions on building out my current rental home or adding an ADU. Would definitely use them in the future.

The team at MDM Custom Remodeling did a very good job transforming our ugly small kitchen and making it brand new.Mike, the owner was also the project manager, he is very professional, the communication with him was always timley and the quality of the work was exceptional.The job was delayed and took longer than promised because of a structural issue that had to be addressed. This caused an extra cost and extra time in the project but MDM did handle it very professionally and brought their engineer Amir on at their cost to take a close look before making any decisions.Our new kitchen is now beautiful, and thanks to the structural reinforcement that was addressed we feel much safer and prepared for the next earthquake.We are extremely pleased with the outcome and overall experience. The work on our home by MDM was exceptional. We fully renovated our common area kitchen and guest bathroom, including removing two load-bearing walls and installing an island.From the initial meeting and consultation to the design and construction, we were very happy with every stage we worked with MDM. There are a lot of professional contractors out there, but the communication with Mike throughout the project and the level of details was exceptional and made us feel we were handled by one of the best in the industry. We are very proud of the results and cant brag less to our friends and family.

Overall, Im satisfied with our home remodel results.Throughout the process, MDM communicated in very a timely manner and was transparent about costs from the very beginning. We were at on a time crunch to get this project completed before Thanksgiving, and they came through completion two weeks before promised. The MDM team completely remodeled our kitchen in 2015.I have been thinking about writing for quite a time now as we are still so happy and proud we chose MDM to do the job.Their price was not the cheapest but definitely reasonable compared to other quotes we received.Throughout the entire time, we felt we were handled in very good care.The only complaint was that they did not stain the shelves the color we wanted, but they did reimburse us for these shelves, so all was good.We are more than happy with our kitchen and are planning to remodel both bathrooms in the near future with MDM.

Shawn met my husband and I at our house in Los Angeles regarding converting our garage in to ADU and some other home remodeling things we were interested in doing in our primary home. Shawn was very professional and answered all of our questions promptly and gave us new ideas we havent thought about.Ultimately, we were not able to make the project as we wish we could do, but we will definitely keep MDM and Shawn in mind for the future.

We hired MDM to help us with our remodeling project. Some parts of our project include converting a half bath to a full master bath, an existing bedroom into a larger and up-to-date master bedroom, along with some air conditioning. We chose MDM because we were impressed with their professionalism and the quality of their work. We met with them a few times and just had a good feeling.From the start, Mike and Shawn maintained excellent communication with us, talking us through the project, working with us on plans that met our needs - and within our budget, and coming out to meet with us on multiple occasions even before we signed a contract.They guided us through the permitting process (ahead of schedule), and have rapidly progress through our remodel- going from a full demolition, to laying a new foundation, and rebuilding part of the house from the ground up - in about 2 months time.The project is nearly done, and we’re extremely pleased with their work and communication.Two final notes:1) They made sure the new roof was put in place just in time for the recent hurricane/tropical storm. We expressed concern with Mike and Shawn about how the storm may impact our hot water heater (which had to be moved outside during the remodel), and we came home with a new little “shed” for it to seal it off from all the rain (check the photos!). It was a nice surprise and it meant a lot to us for MDM to go that extra step.2) We expressed concerns with pet safety at the start, and they have been extremely accommodating - building in sealed off rooms and placing barriers to meet our needs. MDM accommodating us with maximizing pet safety is likely the best and most mind-easing part of this entire process thus far.……..UPDATE:We’re in the final stages of the project, and I now have a new favorite room in the house - that beautiful, sweet sweet bathroom that Mike and his team designed and put together for us. We’re adding some photos that include the bathroom. The master bedroom is spacious and bright, easily a runner up for favorite room #2 😜, and we couldn’t be any happier.The team seamlessly matched our existing stucco, and made transition areas with the old/new flooring that look great. They even took pieces of the old flooring and used them to make flooring for a new closet in a part of the house that still had the old flooring.Mike and his team were communicative and respectful - and not just respectful of us, but also our neighbors! Everything stayed on budget, and each phase of the project stayed on schedule (except for a couple delays due to the rain).Most importantly, a lot of the time MDM worked at our house, our three pets were at home; MDM worked with us to make sure our pets (birds) were safe and as comfortable as possible. On occasion, we’d even hear from MDM that they had fun listening to our pets - these little things were nice, friendly touches that meant a lot to us.We will absolutely hire MDM again for future projects like this.

The MDM team is an amazing remodeling company, we called them to remodel our bathroom in our house in Los Angeles. Everything was exactly the way Shawn promised. Every morning the workers arrived on time. Our experience with MDM Custom Remodeling, Inc. was very enjoyable and gratifying from start to finish. We had water damage caused by a broken pipe and needed a lower level room to be redone. I sent them a message and I received a reply back from Mike on the same day. We set up a viewing and meeting promptly. He is a great communicator and lays everything out for you very clearly. If youre reading this, I assume youre trying to decide if you should do your project with MDM, and I want my experience to give you the peace of mind youre seeking.Rather than give you a big write up on the specifics of my ADU projects design, Im just gonna dump a ton of pics on you. They speak for themselves. But instead, I want the focus of this review to be about the areas in which I think MDM excelled.Communication - Heres what MDM doesnt do. They dont avoid you. Mike (the owner) doesnt double speak. He doesnt undersell the cost of things or hide costs that will arise outside the scope of his contracted services. If you ask him how much something will cost, he tells you flatly. In addition to this, hes organized. We communicated almost entirely over whatsapp, and for the majority of the project, I wasnt even on the property, but I found the whatapp dedicated chat was super useful, because the search functions are excellent, and you can export the whole chat which is a great way to keep track of invoices, payment receipts, etc.Project Management - Being offsite, I was greatly reliant on Mike to not only keep me involved, but also to provide daily pictures, and occasionally to coordinate with my main houses tenants needs.. In addition to all of this, Mike offered guidance in areas I knew nothing about (i.e. how to deal with the utilities companies, where to find good cabinets at reasonable cost, and design ideas to maximize my space) In one of the pics, youll see Mike installed an attic ladder to allow me to use the lofted area for some storage (since a 500sqt ADU obviously needs to maximize that).Reliability with scheduling - MDM doesnt doesnt drag out projects. As soon as the permits cleared, within a week we broke ground, and within a month, the entire garage has been trenched, demod and framed out both inside and out. MDM showed up 5-6 days a week without fail. We have a couple things to wrap up, which are being delayed by the utility companies, but Ive never felt like he was putting me second to anyone.Ethical - This goes without saying, but a good bid means nothing, if you have an unscrupulous contract. I expected Mike to honor his word. I didnt want to be gouged. And that might be the most refreshing thing of this whole process. You might be able to find someone who quotes you lower, but at least in my own personal experiences, Ive never felt like Ive worked with a contractor who reflects the image he presented in the estimate process as accurately as what has plate dout. I never felt like Mike went out of his way to create hidden costs and expand jobs. We hit a couple snags of course, but anything that went wrong that I felt was on the contractor side, Mike attempted to fix.I would 100% use MDM again. Furthermore, I would willingly talk to anyone who wants to speak to me directly. Just ask Mike for my contact info. Hell know who wrote this review from the pics.

We have lived in our home for 40 plus years and we went abroad to live for a couple of years where living space is very small. The living rooms could hardly accommodate the families let alone guests. I decided when we returned to Los Angeles that we needed to open up our family room and kitchen to one big room - the great room where my family and guests would feel comfortable and I would be connected to everyone while cooking and preparing meals. I had a vision in my head, but MDM Custom Remodeling (Mike) took my vision and made it a reality. It was fabulous to see the 3-D rendition of what the finished product would look like. We had to remove a bearing wall, which required a post and large beam to be installed. It was going to be a messy job, but every effort was made to keep the dust and dirt contained. At the end of each day rubble and dirt were tidied up! We wanted to keep the old wood floors, we wanted to keep the granite counters & tile in the kitchen, and we didnt want to replace the kitchen appliances - NO PROBLEM was the response. We were promised that work would be completed at a certain time and they did the job quickly and efficiently - every day workmen were on our project and they completed our beautiful kitchen, dining room & great room ahead of schedule. What we loved most about MDM was that they were true to their word and they fixed anything that we felt was not quite right. They wanted our complete satisfaction! Everything turned out exactly as I had envisioned it in the beginning. We have a beautiful area in which to entertain family and friends - its perfect!!

In the spring of 2019, Shawn and his team rebuilt our two bathrooms and kitchen and did some minor work around the house.My wife and I couldnt be happier with our decision. Our kitchen was completely gutted and remodeled by MDM. The overall process took about 8 weeks from start to finish.The consultation and design went fast since we knew exactly what we wanted based on inspirational pictures and Mike put it all together on his cool 3D software.In no time we bought the finishing materials and appliances and the crews were in my kitchen gutting it out.We were surprised to find damaged framing under the kitchen sink and some challenges with the city inspector on the electrical but Mike took care of these issues with no problem or extra charge.We communicated daily with Mike and enjoyed working with him and the MDM team and Mario in particular who came every day to check the quality and progress of the project.We love our finished kitchen and it came out even better than our expectations.Mike and the team worked so hard to make sure everything turned up beautifully.Thumbs up to MDM!

ZERO STAR! Opportunist, at his best!!Mike (owner) wanted $1800 for an ADU estimate. Please note that I had two other contractors submit an estimate for FREE, so we are well aware of how this goes. Both estimates show a general cost for specific areas of work, like concrete, foundation,etc. Mikes free version of an estimate is a lump sum in an email without any breakdown. And yes, he wanted $1800 for anything more.

Mike is great, our next door neighbor hired him for a major remodel and at some point some debries got to our driveway. After noticing it to Mike, he sent his guys immediately to clean our driveway. Greatly appreciated.

We were looking to update our master bathroom, we had an outdated bathroom that was original to our house in Culver City that was built in the early 1950s. As a first time homeowner I was nervous about converting my 2 car garage in to an incoming ADU I wanted to rent and also remodeling my bathroom in my existing house I had to do.After speaking with few general contractors I went with MDM custom remodeling because of their great online reviews and I felt as Shawn was the most professional and detailed among them all.Starting with the 3D design we came with the initial budget and move forward with the actual construction.I got to say they work fast! Shawn told me they work fast, but I did not expect them to work as fast as they did. All demolition and haul away debris was done on the first day, two weeks later we passed inspections after finishing with framing, rough plumbing, rough electrical and ventulation another month and they alreay finished the rough and started finishings.4 months and a week in took them to completely convert my garage to an amazing and beautiful ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) attached to my house.Up until seven months ago I was a renter paying rent, now I live in my own house enjoying my new remodeled bathroom and in a search to rent out my ADU. Life is full of surprises but they became much easier and sweeter thanks to MDM.

We were so lucky to find MDM and Mike… Mike knows what he is talking about and has very good workers performing the works. We recently remodeled our old and small bathroom and we are still surprised with the result: beyond our expectation! Mike helped us to design it and to pick the tiles; we showed to him some drawings and pictures of the vanity and mirror we like and he had them custom made for us. The price? Very competitive!! We also refinished the wood floors and re-piped the entire house and MDM’s estimates were lower than the others we received. At MDM, they focus on details and do not over charge you. In our case, they replaced the bathroom window as required by the inspector, without asking us to pay for it. My kids are so in love with their new bathroom that they ask me to take a bath as soon as they come back to school. No matter what kind of project you want to take over, you should call MDM and meet with Mike: if you want a pain-free renovation, MDM and Mike are the right choice!

Mike came to my home to evaluate some extensive damage caused by a tree root growing under the homes foundation as well as for our new construction placing a second story on the house. MDM Custom Remodeling has completely transformed our 1940s home. Mike and his talented team turned an out-dated, cramped 3 bedroom, 1 3/4 bath house into a lovely, well-planned 5 bedroom, 4 bath masterpiece for our family of five. Mike designed a new floor plan, knocking down walls within the pre-existing house, taking space from a patio outside, and adding a second story. The now large and spacious kitchen and bathrooms have gorgeous custom cabinetry. They matched existing hardwood floors and moldings to maintain the classic style of our home. Mike also allowed us to remain living in the house during the entire process, by doing the work in stages, and demonstrated tremendous patience as we struggled with simple decisions like tile or lighting choices. My wife and I recently had a project designed and built by MDM Custom Remodeling. The project was a remodel/addition and took approximately 15 weeks. The project went smoothly, from the design phase through construction and cleanup. For clarity, I’ve broken down the different phases below.Project:1. Convert a master suite (bedroom, bathroom, closet) into two bedrooms, a bathroom and stairs.2. Add a new (upstairs) master suite.InterviewMike was our first interview and our overall impression was a positive one. My wife and I interviewed two other candidates for the project. These two interviews went well but we settled on MDM Construction for a few reasons:1. Best communication. Mike is reachable via email, text, and phone calls. Vision: We explained to Mike what our budget was and what we wanted to do. He laid out a rough concept for us right there in the interview which matched our vision.4. Cost sheet - Mike drew up a quote for us which included a breakdown of material costs, from the toilet paper holder to rain gutters. This illustrated to us that he knew exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it.Design PhaseOnce we decided to go with Mike, things went very fast. He had an electronic draft sent out via email within a couple of days of signing the contract and my wife and I communicated our desired changes via email.After agreeing on a final plan, Mike went ahead and took care of our permits and after a few weeks we were ready to break ground.Construction PhaseConstruction was fast, and overall went very smoothly. His framing team is top notch, all of our inspections passed with no major issues and we were able to live in the front half of the house while the work was being done. During construction we had a few design tweaks and Mike and his team were able to easily accommodate these changes.SummaryCost: No hidden costs, very straightforward. If we went over budget it was our choice and we paid for it up front. Not the cheapest of the three we interviewed, but also not the most expensive.Quality: Our project has been complete for only a couple of months, so it’s difficult to judge this on a fair scale. I will assume the quality is fine as speaking with the inspectors, they mentioned the work was done well.Speed: Finished ahead of schedule. What more can we ask for?Communication: Excellent. Very easy to communicate with.Bottom line: If you want a solid job done for a reasonable price, you can’t go wrong with MDM Construction.
